Driven is the name of several different bands, including a hardcore punk group from Amsterdam, a nu metal project from Los Angeles, a rock band from Estonia, a straight edge hardcore band from Japan, and an Irish rock band.

Amsterdam hardcore punk band

The Amsterdam-based Driven forms in 1996 and disbands in 2001. It belongs to the hardcore punk scene, although its sound is described more as metal than hardcore. The band’s idealistic message keeps it connected to hardcore punk.

Driven records its only official release, Cowardice Consumer of the West, in 1998. For its 2001 European tour, it also issues a two-song demo CD independently.

Los Angeles nu metal project

Another Driven is a nu metal band from Los Angeles fronted by Timm Saxton. In 1999 Tracy G begins writing new songs and later meets Saxton at the Whisky A Go Go through a mutual connection. Tracy G and Saxton write more than 50 songs together. The group releases one CD on Tracy G’s label and another on MTM Records in Germany.

The line-up includes Larry Dennison on bass, with some songwriting contribution, and Ray Luzier on drums. Mike Terrana plays drums on the Self Inflicted CD released through MTM Germany. The band later changes its name to Goaded.

Other acts using the name

A separate Driven is a rock band from Estonia. Another is a Japanese straight edge hardcore band. There is also an Irish rock band known for the 1996 single “Jesus Loves You More If You Can Drive”. That Irish line-up runs from 1995 to 1998 with Brendan Markham on vocals and guitar, Darrin Mullins on lead guitar, Ned Kennedy on drums and Paul Power on bass; after 1998, Christian Best replaces Kennedy on drums. Three members later form Citizen.
