Dragged Into Sunlight are a UK extreme metal group from the United Kingdom, active since 2006. The band operate as a collective, with some members also involved in other named acts across the preceding decade. Their sound is rooted in extreme metal and is associated with black metal, doom metal, death metal, sludge and blackened doom metal, with the wider profile also placing them in atmospheric sludge metal, dark ambient, death-doom metal and metal.

Style and themes

The band develop a harsh, underground sound shaped by extreme, doom, death, black metal and harsh noise. They state no specific musical influences, instead drawing on themes of depression, isolation, abuse and calculated violence in contemporary society. Their music is described as highly negative and intense, and they are compared with artists such as Incantation, Rudimentary Peni, Wolves in the Throne Room, Eyehategod and Beherit.

Releases

In 2008, Dragged Into Sunlight issue a limited tape called Terminal Aggressor, which circulates heavily before selling out and is not re-pressed. Their debut full-length, Hatred for Mankind, follows in 2009 on Mordgrimm Records. The album is mastered by Billy Anderson and produced by Tom Dring. It later receives a re-release on Prosthetic Records in 2011. The group also plan a conceptual trilogy titled Widowmaker, with the first instalment due later in the year noted in the profile.

Live work and reputation

Dragged Into Sunlight build a reputation for exclusive, vicious and ritualistic performances. Their live sets sometimes consist entirely of soundscapes and projection work, and they tour in Europe with Eyehategod, Weedeater, Black Cobra, Rwake, Today Is the Day and Soilent Green. They also appear at major extreme metal festivals including Roadburn, SWR and Maryland Deathfest.

Label context

Mordgrimm Records, the label behind Hatred for Mankind, is identified with artists such as Anaal Nathrakh, Eagle Twin and Attila Csihar. Prosthetic Records later reissues the album and is noted for a roster including Lamb of God, Skeletonwitch and 1349.
