Dr Spin

Dr Spin is a pseudonym used by Andrew Lloyd Webber and record producer Nigel Wright for the 1992 single “Tetris”. Their identities are not widely publicised at the time of the release. Lloyd Webber is better known as a composer of musical theatre, while Wright works as a record producer.

“Tetris”

“Tetris” is an early 1990s Eurodance cover version of the best-known melody from the Game Boy version of Tetris, which itself is an instrumental version of the Russian folk song “Korobeiniki”. The track appears as a one-off release under the Dr Spin name and reaches number 6 in the UK Singles Chart. It gives the project its only UK chart entry, and there is no evidence of any other releases under that name.

Later work

Lloyd Webber and Wright continue to work together on other projects. Wright produces Bombalurina’s 1990 cover of “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”, with Lloyd Webber also involved, and later works on a number of Lloyd Webber cast albums.
