Dopplereffekt

Dopplereffekt is a Detroit electronic project active since 1995. The group works in detroit techno and electro, and its members are Kim Karli, Michaela Barthel, Gerald Donald and William Scott.

The project is known for a low public profile, with very few live appearances and only one known interview. Its composers use German pseudonyms, while the track titles and lyrics are in English. The work combines scientific, sexually explicit and political references, and the music is described as eclectic and unusual.

Although Kraftwerk is a clear influence, Dopplereffekt develops a distinctive sound that has been influential within electro culture. Its best-known album is Gesamtkunstwerk, released in 1999 on International Deejay Gigolo Records. The album includes tracks that had previously appeared only on vinyl releases such as Fascist State and Infophysix.

In 2003, Dopplereffekt releases Linear Accelerator on International Deejay Gigolo Records. That record marks a shift away from the group’s earlier style, with fewer beat-driven tracks and a focus on particle physics. In 2007, the group releases Calabi Yau Space on Rephlex.
