Dopamine

Dopamine is a rock band from Caerphilly, Wales, active from 2000 to the present. The group plays alt rock with a sound that draws on shoegaze, black metal, post-rock and depressive black metal, and is also described as a black metal, shoegaze and depressive rock project in other releases associated with the name.

Releases and activity

The band releases three EPs, including one issued for the Japanese market, and two albums. Its second album, Experiments With Truth, is released on Emotion Sickness and receives mixed reviews, including coverage in Kerrang! and Rock Sound. The band also tours with acts including Underoath, Funeral for a Friend, Silverstein, Lostprophets and The Hurt Process.

Other recordings under the name

One project using the same name is formed in China in 2008 by Deng and Jiang, with vocalist Zhao joining in 2009. That version of Dopamine issues a self-titled EP in 2010, contributes the track “Melting” to a split with Heretoir and Dernier Martyr, and later appears on the compilation Dying Away in the Deep Fall through Pest Productions. A full-length release titled Dying Away in the Deep Fall 2 follows in 2019. Deng also runs the labels Midnight Productions, Weary Bird Records and Pest Productions.
