dOP

dOP is a Paris-based electronic music group active since 2005. It is currently made up of Jonathan Illel, Damien Vandesande and Clement Zemstov, and was previously a trio with Clément Aichelbaum. The group works across deep house, electronica, house, melodic house, melodic techno, minimal, experimental and tech house.

Background

Damien Vandesande, Clément Aichelbaum and Jonathan Illel are childhood friends who had already worked together on several projects before forming dOP. Before settling into electronic music, they experiment with styles including hip-hop and rock. Their music develops around an approach to organic dance music, with emphasis on real instruments and voices, and Nicolas Sfintescu of Nôze is one of the main influences on their sound.

Releases and labels

dOP releases a series of singles and EPs on labels including their own Circus Company, as well as Milnor Modern, Eklo and Supplement Facts. Their first full-length album, Greatest Hits, appears in 2010.

Live reputation

The group earns recognition in the electronic music scene and appears in Resident Advisor's Top Live Acts for 2010, 2011 and 2012. Their performances are noted for a more physical stage presence, drawing on the energy of rock and hip-hop live acts while remaining rooted in dance music.
