Dominguinhos
Dominguinhos is a Brazilian musician, singer and composer from Pernambuco, Brazil, born in 1941 and active in the traditions of baião, choro, forró and latin music. Born José Domingos de Morais in Garanhuns, he becomes known as one of the leading accordion players in forró.
Style and background
He is musically adopted by Luiz Gonzaga, a central figure in baião and northeastern Brazilian music, and he remains closely associated with the roots of forró while also taking a more jazz-influenced approach to his playing.
Collaborations and recognition
Dominguinhos performs with artists including Luiz Gonzaga, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Zé Ramalho, Toquinho and Maria Bethânia. He tours with Gal Costa at Midem, and songs of his are recorded by Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Elba Ramalho and Fagner.
Selected work
In 1997 he writes the soundtrack for the film O Cangaceiro.
