Dogtooth

Dogtooth is a musical collaboration between producer Neil ‘Nuff’ Stainton and English singer Chris Madin. The pair work together as a group and have been active since their earlier collaboration on Ten Atmospheres High, the 2005 album by Nuff Orchestra.

Formation and background

Stainton and Madin begin working together after their joint work on Ten Atmospheres High. Dogtooth develops from that partnership and centres on Stainton’s production and Madin’s vocals.

Recording and release activity

One of the project’s key tracks is a house version of Steve Miller Band’s Abracadabra. Stainton builds the track using samples from the original recording along with new beats and instrumentation. After circulating CD-R copies to a number of leading DJs, the record draws interest from several European dance labels, subject to sample clearance. Stainton later re-records the sampled elements and asks Madin to provide the guest vocal, updating the song for the project.

Reception and DJ support

The track receives play from DJs at the Winter Music Conference in Miami and appears in DJ charts, including that of UK Top 10 artist StoneBridge. It also gains radio play in regional markets and support from club DJs.
