dodie

dodie is the mononymous stage name of Dorothy Miranda Clark, an English singer-songwriter, author and YouTuber from Enfield, United Kingdom. She is also known for her YouTube handle doddleoddle, and uses she/they pronouns. Her work is associated with bedroom pop, indie pop, pop and singer-songwriter styles.

Online work

She begins vlogging in 2007 with a friend, then starts uploading singing videos on a newly created doddleoddle channel in 2011. She also runs a side channel, doddlevloggle. Her online output becomes a major part of her profile, with hundreds of videos across both channels and a large audience.

Recorded music

Dodie self-releases her first EP, Intertwined, in 2016. It reaches number 35 on the UK albums chart, despite being unsigned. Its lead single, “Sick of Losing Soulmates”, reaches number one on the UK Spotify Viral 50 chart. Her second EP, You, follows in 2017 and reaches number 6 on the UK Albums Chart and number 55 on the US Billboard 200.

Her third EP, Human, is released in 2019 and peaks at number 5 in the UK, making it her highest-charting release in her home country at that point and her third consecutive top 40 entry. In 2021 she releases her first full-length studio album, Build a Problem, which debuts at number three on the UK Albums Chart. The standard edition includes mostly new material, alongside earlier versions of “When”, “Rainbow” and “Cool Girl” that appear on her YouTube channel; “When (live)” also appears on Intertwined. The deluxe edition includes bonus demo tracks from her ALOSIA sessions.

Writing and other work

In 2017, dodie publishes her autobiographical book, Secrets for the Mad: Obsessions, Confessions and Life Lessons. In 2019, she contributes “Ready Now” to the MOOMINVALLEY (Official Soundtrack).

Live appearances and later releases

She tours North America for You in 2018, then tours the UK, Europe and North America with Human in 2019. After Build a Problem, she tours North America and Europe in 2022. In 2022 she releases the single “Got Weird”, followed by “Hot Mess” and the Hot Mess EP. She also appears on Late Night with Seth Meyers performing “Hate Myself” and on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series performing “Hot Mess”, “Special Girl”, “When” and “Lonely Bones”.

FIZZ and collaborations

In 2023, dodie forms the supergroup FIZZ with Greta Isaac, Martin Luke Brown and Orla Gartland. The group releases the single “High in Brighton” and the album The Secret to Life, before announcing a hiatus in 2024 so the members can focus on solo work and other projects. Later in 2023, dodie also appears on Cory Wong’s “Call Me Wild (feat. dodie)” from The Lucky One.
