Djebali

Djebali is a Paris-based dance music producer and DJ associated with house, minimal, tech house and minimal techno. He emerges from Paris’s early-2000s club scene and develops into one of the city’s better-known house producers from a younger generation of artists.

Career in Paris and beyond

He first receives support from Terence:Terry: at the After Party Is Not A Crime nights. He then appears repeatedly at Rex Club and holds a residency at the Freak N’ Chic Batofar parties between 2008 and 2010. From there, he plays widely in Europe and beyond, taking his music to clubs and events in cities including Ibiza, Bordeaux, St Petersburg, Tunisia, London, Liverpool, Tokyo and venues linked to scenes in Ukraine and Birmingham. He also holds a residency in the red Terrace room at DC10 in Ibiza, where he appears several times each summer.

Djebali also runs his own party at Rex Club in Paris, known as Ideal Juice, which also travels to locations outside the city. The event appears at Ibiza Underground, Iboat in Bordeaux, Special Case in St Petersburg, The Basement in Tunisia, and stops in London and Liverpool in the UK. Through this work, he contributes to the Paris club scene while also presenting other artists.

Production work and labels

His first EP, Fanfare, appears in 2008 on Tuning Spork after Jay Haze backs the release. He follows it with the LAX EP in 2009 and Sorry, I Missed The Sky on Freak N’ Chic the following year. His productions gain critical attention, and he becomes known for a catalogue of house tracks rooted in classic groove and club functionality.

As a remixer, he works on material for Inland Knights, Jef K’s Silver Network, Culprit LA and Chez Damier’s Balance label. He also records remixes for Sebo K’s Scenario label and Alex Arnout on NoFitState. In 2011 he launches his own vinyl-only imprint, ( djebali ), which releases music straight from the studio to wax and regularly sells out quickly. In 2013 he adds two sister imprints: ( djebali ) presents -, which is aimed at developing artists, and ( djebali ) reworks, which focuses on remixes from established artists and friends. Contributors to these releases include Christian Burkhardt, Hreno & the Mole, Mandar, Livio & Roby, Hold Youth and John Dimas, with Cab Drivers and Alci also involved in planned reworks. The label family also includes ( djebali ) extra, where his track Reputation is reworked by POINT G for a special repress.

He also collaborates with Premiesku and with his long-time friend Tuccillo. Although he later expands the label into digital releases, he keeps vinyl as his preferred format. He is also working on his first long-player project.
