DJ Vibes

DJ Vibes is a happy hardcore DJ and musician from Essex in the United Kingdom. He begins DJing in 1991, inspired by his father, who plays soul on a pirate radio station. Vibes also sets up his own radio station, where he plays garage, then popular in the UK.

Early career

His first DJ set takes place at Rush at the Pyramid Centre in Dalston, London. The station is later shut down in late 1991, leading to a fine of £1200 and the confiscation of his equipment. He stays active in the scene and secures a first residency at Roller Express in Edmonton. After a series of gigs, he builds a strong reputation and DJs at many hardcore venues.

Recordings and releases

His breakthrough comes when he borrows £800 from a relative and releases his first record, Obsession (Music’s So Wonderful), with Wishdokta on his Asylum label. The record sells more than 10,000 copies and helps establish his profile on the DJ circuit. His name is also associated with Vibes & Wishdokta, Ravers Choice, and Asylum Music Inc.

Style and scene

DJ Vibes works in old school hardcore, hardcore, rave, happy hardcore, and UK hardcore. He plays his brand of hardcore alongside MC Livelee through the mid to late 1990s and becomes a regular at Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, and Hardcore Heaven.

International work

He plays across Australia, Canada, Spain, Germany, and other countries, and continues to perform raves internationally.
