DJ Spidee

DJ Spidee is a DJ and radio figure who builds his career around CDJ mixing, audience interaction and drum and bass. He learns to mix at 16 from DJ Woodstock, who also mentors DJ and producer Mat Jam Lamont, but does not fully commit to turntable work until about a decade later.

Early career

He launches his own internet radio station, playtunes.co.uk, which marks the start of his professional career. Within two years, he develops a substantial following through his sound and on-air style. That success leads to an invitation to start a pirate station, Rush FM. After a period of competition with the established Raw FM, he and the other Rush FM DJs join Raw FM’s line-up.

Raw FM

At Raw FM, he quickly becomes a major presence. His energetic mixing and audience engagement make him the station’s most popular DJ within a year.

Other work and events

DJ Spidee also founds No Room for the Big Boys, a drum and bass event created to give DJs their first big-stage performance. He founds Bassline Shakedown, a drum and bass event centred on heavy basslines, neurofunk and jump up. He also creates the number one dnb show, where he plays new releases from the previous week and features new DJs.

Style and approach

He is known for adapting his sets to the mood of the crowd and for taking requests, with a focus on creating a strong party atmosphere. He also supports aspiring DJs and encourages newcomers, drawing on his own early experiences in the scene.
