DJ Scotch Egg

DJ Scotch Egg is the performing name of Shigeru Ishihara, also known as Scotch Rolex. He is a Japanese producer associated with experimental and future bass as well as chiptune and gabber music. He is based in Brighton, UK, and originates from Tokyo.

Early work and background

Before using the DJ Scotch Egg name, Ishihara performs improvised noise music as Shiez 2000. He also contributes to a number of smaller groups, including Megadrive, Noony Banoony and The Fighting Seizure Robots Busking Crew. After moving from Tokyo to Brighton, he helps establish Wrong Music, a breakcore and noise club night, with Henry Collins, who also performs as Shitmat, and Matt, who performs as Roger Species.

Style and releases

Collins encourages Ishihara to use a Game Boy for gabber tracks, which becomes part of his approach. He releases music on the Wrong Music label, as well as Adaadat and Junior Aspirin Records.

He works with a range of other artists, including Ove-Naxx, Hvartski, Duracell, Bong-Ra, The Pipettes and The Go! Team.
