DJ Ironik
DJ Ironik is a grime and hip hop artist from London, England. Born on 18 January 1988, he decides on a career in music at an early age and begins performing as a DJ in clubs at the age of 13. He starts his early career in the UK and then works across Europe after his talent is noticed.
Recording career
His first single, So Nice, appears in 2007 and gains strong play on music channels, including a long run in the Channel U viewer request chart. It has limited wider chart impact. At the age of 20, he signs with Atlantic/Warner UK. His breakthrough single, Stay with Me, reaches number 11 on downloads alone and later number five on physical release. It also remains in the Channel U request chart top 10 for 26 weeks. A remix of the track features Chipmunk and Wiley.
His second single, I Wanna Be Your Man, is released in 2008 and reaches number 35 in the UK singles chart, while also placing in the download chart top 10. His debut album, No Point in Wasting Tears, is released on Atlantic/Asylum Records in 2008 and charts at number 21 in the UK.
Collaborations, touring and recognition
The third single from his debut album is Tiny Dancer (Hold Me Closer), which features Elton John. In 2008 he supports Cascada on their UK tour, The Perfect Day Tour 2008. He is also voted the third favourite artist of the year by MTV UK viewers, behind Katy Perry and Duffy.
He receives nominations for Best Newcomer at the 2008 MOBO Awards, Best Newcomer and Best Music Video for Stay With Me at the 2008 Urban Music Awards, and Best Male Music in Film at the Screen Nation Film & TV Awards.
