DJ Ink

DJ Ink is a drum and bass producer from London, United Kingdom, associated with jungle and electronic music. He begins his career on the pirate radio circuit after developing an interest in hip hop in 1990, then moves into the UK street music and drum and bass scenes as they form and evolve, with strong influences from African and Jamaican music.

Labels and early work

He builds Architecture Recordings as an outlet for his own music, with the aim of putting out records quickly. The label becomes well regarded by peers, newer producers and established names. DJ Ink also works with Basement Records, Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware, and remains connected with Renegade Hardware and Metalheadz. His releases include The 50th (Blueprint) on Basement Records, Feel da heat from the LP Can u draw sound? on Architecture Recordings, Kaos Theory Ep on Renegade Hardware, Shine on Metalheadz, and the posse cut Instinct on Architecture.

Horsemen and collaborations

DJ Ink works with the Horsemen collective, originally a London group made up of Ink, Loxy, Keaton and Dylan, later expanded to include artists from Canada, Brazil, the United States and Puerto Rico. Through the Horsemen banner, he works with Renegade Hardware to realise two albums and also oversees other projects for Architecture.

Style

His sound is described in terms such as tribal, b-boy, mechanical, organic and abstract, with an emphasis on groove and on shaping sound in a way that affects the space around it as well as the core material.
