DJ Haram

DJ Haram is the alias of Zubeyda Muzeyyen, a producer and DJ from Philadelphia. Her work links her New Jersey musical background with involvement in Philadelphia’s DIY noise scene, and it also draws on her Middle Eastern roots. She is associated with experimental electronic music and club-oriented sounds, with elements of glitch and noise reflected in her practice.

Career and collaborations

DJ Haram is a close affiliate of New York collective Discwoman. She is also one half of 700 Bliss with rapper and poet Moor Mother. The pair appear together on her EP.

Releases

She releases Handplay on Hyperdub and later follows it with the album Beside Myself on the same label. Beside Myself receives a positive review from Pitchfork and is given a score of 7.8.
