DJ Champion

DJ Champion is the name used by at least two different artists. One is Maxime Morin, who is based in Montreal’s music scene and uses the alias DJ Champion. The other is a UK funky and grime DJ and producer active from 2009, with releases on Terror Danjah’s Hardware label and on Formula Records.

Maxime Morin / DJ Champion

Maxime Morin performs as DJ Champion and has also used the name DJ Mad Max. He is associated with Montreal and is described as having spent more than a decade in that scene. Before recording under the DJ Champion name, he helps form a number of punk acts.

His first album, Chill’Em All, appears on Saboteur Musique and is released in 2004. It wins the Album of the Year award in the electronic-techno category at the 2005 ADISQ awards. The album combines rock guitars, techno rhythms, vocals and melodies, and leads to performances at festivals and events including Les Transmusicales de Rennes, the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, Paléo Festival, Les Nuits Botaniques, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Virgin Festival in Toronto, the Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas, and the Toronto Film Festival.

One track from the album, “No Heaven,” is nominated for a CASBY award in the favourite new single category. A second album is planned for 2007 in the available information.

UK funky / grime DJ and producer

The other DJ Champion is a UK funky and grime DJ and producer active from 2009. This artist releases music on Hardware, the label run by Terror Danjah, and on Formula Records.
