DJ C

DJ C is US electro and ragga producer Jake Trussell. He works across mashup, jungle, raggacore, breakcore and ragga-jungle, and is known for mixing a wide range of styles including crunkment, mashstep, ragga-bounce, grime-hall, hip-hop, bashment, grime, bounce, rock, folk, bhangra and dubstep.

Releases and labels

He releases records on labels in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan. His output includes a remix of M.I.A.'s U.R.A.Q.T. for the Galang 05 single on XL Recordings, as well as singles for Shockout and Community Library. He also releases music on his own Mashit imprint.

Reception and activity

DJ C's tracks circulate widely in clubs and on radio, and he performs at parties, clubs and events around the world. Mashit receives attention from BBC Radio 1 host John Peel, who names it a label of the month and plays a DJ C mix of Mashit tracks.

Collaborations and remixes

He remixes singers including M.I.A. and Gregory Isaacs, and his work is described as moving between ragga and other club-oriented forms while keeping a heavily cut-and-pasted approach.
