DJ Birdy
DJ Birdy, also known as Xavier Duquesne, is a French electronic DJ and producer born in Paris in 1972. He first comes into contact with electronic music in 1989 during a trip to Detroit, where he spends much of his time in underground clubs. After that, he works with party organisers in Lyon and begins DJing at private rave parties.
Career
His profile grows when French progressive DJ Max Le Sale Gosse books him for an official party. He then plays in clubs including Space and Fridge in Lyon, and also appears in Spain and Lithuania. After moving back to Paris, he performs at Folies Pigale, Vynil, Batofar and Les Bains Douches, and takes part in the Techno Parade.
Nu Records and collaborations
Birdy later meets Nûgen, a French progressive house producer, and joins the Nu-records label. On Nu Recs, he releases his first DJ-set album. He also performs with Nûgen at Morphismes parties called Quattrocento, which are described as becoming well known in Paris for progressive house.
Connected Parties and influences
In 2006, Birdy helps launch the Connected Parties with Faskil, Be of KRM and Atlant rec., and Boombatcha from the UK’s Sumsonic. He continues to organise private events focused on progressive sounds. His stated influences include Timo Maas, Francesco Farfa, Sasha, Digweed, Luke Dzierzek and Chris Lake.
