The act is made up of long-established musicians who play in the Central Scotland scene. Its performances include major venues and a number of festivals, among them the Dundee Blues Bonanaza, described as Europe’s largest free blues festival.

Recordings and label

Dixie Fried signs to Glasgow independent label Big Rock Candy Records in 2010 and releases its self-titled debut album in 2011. The album receives critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.

Reception

Reviews compare the group’s sound to raw Delta and Mississippi blues traditions, with one describing its music as comparable to a Son House record and another noting that it brings Mississippi blues into a rock setting in a way that recalls RL Burnside and Carl Perkins. Another review comments on Craig Lamie’s downbeat but not downtrodden vocal delivery.
