Distral

Distral is a punk band from Finland, formed in Joensuu in 2006. The group plays a mix of skatepunk and hardcore, and also fits within hardcore punk and punk rock.

Formation and early line-up

The band forms in summer 2006 by Samu and Atte. It first uses the name Huostaanotetut before changing to Distral, reflecting a shift in musical direction and the move to English-language lyrics. In autumn 2006 the line-up changes: Atte moves from drums to vocals and Juksa joins as the new drummer. By winter 2007 Atte leaves, and Samu and Simo handle vocals.

Recordings and releases

Distral’s first studio EP, Dont get hit by the train, comes out in January 2007. The band then takes part in the Rockbirds band competition in March 2007 and wins, which leads to a recording deal with Pilfink Records. Its first album, Orders overload, is released in January 2008. The second EP is recorded at Cadimef Studios in Joensuu and is issued online in October 2008 with four songs.
