Disco Ensemble is a Finnish rock group from Ulvila. It is active from 1996 to 2018 and consists of Mikko Hakila, Miikka Koivisto, Lasse Lindfors and Jussi Ylikoski.

Sound and style

The group’s music develops from progressive hardcore into a more accessible punk rock direction, and its listed styles include alternative rock, dance-punk, electronic rock and post-hardcore. Its sound is described as a blend of modern punk rock with elements that recall Refused, At the Drive-In and The Cure. Miikka Koivisto’s vocals and retro-synth lines are a notable part of the band’s style.

Career and releases

The band forms in 1996 and spends many years playing in basements and underground venues before building a wider profile. It releases five albums: Viper Ethics (2003), First Aid Kit (2005), Magic Recoveries (2008), The Island Of Disco Ensemble (2010) and Afterlife (2017).
