Dirge

Dirge is a French sludge metal band formed in 1994 in Paris and active to the present. The group starts out with roots in the industrial metal scene of the early 1990s and then develops towards a more atmospheric, progressive style of heavy music. Its sound is associated with doom metal, sludge metal, post-metal, post-rock and post-hardcore.

Style and development

The band moves away from a direct industrial metal approach and into a broader, more expansive form of metal. Its music is linked with post-metal acts such as Neurosis, Isis and Cult of Luna, reflecting a shift towards heavy, layered and atmospheric songwriting.
