Dionne Warwick is an American singer, actress and television host from East Orange, United States, born in 1940. She is known for a long recording career across pop, easy listening, pop soul, quiet storm, rock and smooth soul.

Career

Warwick begins her career performing with the Gospelaires and the Drinkard Singers, and she also appears with Dionne & Friends, We Are Family Collective and Burt and The Backbeats. She records for Arista Records and David and Damon Publishing, Inc.

Awards and recognition

She wins six Grammy Awards and receives the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. She is inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Apollo Theater Walk of Fame. Three of her songs, “Walk On By”, “Alfie” and “Don’t Make Me Over”, are also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest U.S. hit makers between 1955 and 1999, based on her Billboard Hot 100 chart history, and is the second-most charted female vocalist of the rock era. She is also one of the most-charted vocalists of all time, with 56 singles reaching the Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998, including 12 top ten entries, and 80 singles in total on the Hot 100, R&B or adult contemporary charts. Billboard places her at number 74 on its list of the Greatest Artists of All Time.
