Digitonal
Digitonal is a UK ambient, IDM and modern classical group centred on Andy Dobson, who has recorded and performed under the name since 1997. The project develops a classically influenced form of electronica and is associated with the late phase of UK melodic electronica.
Early releases and labels
Digitonal first gains attention on Toytronic Records, appearing on the label’s Neurokinetic compilation before releasing the debut album 23: Things Fall Apart there. The project then records for Seed Records, Cactus Island, Uncharted Audio, B12 and Just Music. On Just Music, Digitonal releases Save Your Light for Darker Days, followed by the retrospective compilation Be Still My Bleeping Heart.
Live work and collaborators
The group tours extensively and is known as a live act for improvised performances with a wide musical range. Alongside frequent collaborator Samy Bishai, an Egyptian violinist, Digitonal works with a flexible group of musicians that includes cellist Jo Quail and harpist Kat Arney. The listed members are Kat Arney, Andy Dobson, Dom Graveson and Samy Bishai.
