Die! Die! Die!
Die! Die! Die! is a New Zealand post-punk band from Dunedin. The group forms in late 2003 and remains active. Its line-up includes Lachlan Anderson, Henry Oliver, Michael Prain and Andrew Wilson. The band is associated with noise pop, post-punk revival and punk rock, and it is also described as a punk three-piece.
Releases
The band’s self-titled debut album, Die! Die! Die!, appears in 2005 in New Zealand and receives an international release soon afterwards. It is recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago with Steve Albini. In 2006 the band releases the four-track EP Locust Weeks; this EP is included on the British edition of the debut album, issued by Pet Piranha Records.
Its second album, Promises, Promises, appears in New Zealand in October 2007 and is released worldwide shortly after. Produced by Shayne Carter of Straitjacket Fits, the album marks a shift away from the harder edge of the first record towards a bass- and drum-led sound, with Lachlan Anderson on bass contributing to that change.
After touring extensively for almost three years, the band completes its third album, Form, in August 2009. Flying Nun Records releases it in July 2010. The album reaches number 1 on the independent charts and number 19 on the national album chart. It is produced by Nick Roughan and continues the direction set on Promises, Promises.
Labels and touring
Die! Die! Die! is formerly signed to Flying Nun Records. All releases before Form are available on the American label SAF Records. The band tours with Franz Ferdinand, Wolfmother and The Blood Brothers, and appears at several major festivals around the world, including SXSW.
