Diane Cluck is an American folk singer-songwriter from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She has been performing her own form of intuitive folk around New York City and elsewhere since 2000. Her work is associated with folk, anti-folk and New Weird America.

Style and performance

Cluck’s singing has drawn comparisons with strikingly unusual animal imagery, while her songs are noted for irregular, highly associative logic. Her self-taught guitar playing is influenced by years of piano study and is described as brilliant and idiosyncratic. In recordings, she often uses oblique vocal harmonies, while her live performances place emphasis on singing as a healing, textural experience, leaving space for the listener.

Recordings and reach

She has released six home-recorded albums that receive international distribution and acclaim. Songs from Oh Vanille / ova nil, which appears on vinyl in 2010, are used in the film Margot at the Wedding and the UK television series Skins.

Collaborations and influence

Cluck tours in the US, the UK and Europe, and often works with cellist Isabel Castellvi. She also collaborates with CocoRosie, Jeffrey Lewis and André Herman Düne. Songwriters including Sharon Van Etten, Laura Marling and Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine cite her work as an influence.

Fan-funded releases

On her website, she releases new songs directly to subscribers through a fan-funded Song-of-the-Week project, and she continues to introduce new material in live performance.
