Diablo
Diablo is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Kalajoki, Finland. The group is active from 1999 and is associated with groove metal and melodic death metal. Its lineup includes Rainer Nygård, Marko Utriainen, Aadolf Virtanen and Heikki Malmberg. Nygård handles guitar and vocals, Virtanen plays bass, Utriainen plays lead guitar, and Malmberg plays drums; he replaces original drummer Timo Kemppainen and has been in the band since 2000.
Early releases and label history
The band records its first mini-album, Princess, and this leads to a deal with Poko Rekords. Its debut album, Elegance in Black, follows in 2000. Diablo later releases Renaissance, which reaches number 14 on the Finnish Top 40. The single Read My Scars is released from the period around the third album and stays on the single chart for nine weeks, peaking at number three.
Album run and chart success
Diablo’s third album, Eternium, becomes a major release for the band and goes straight to number 3 on the Finnish chart. Its fourth album, Mimic47, enters at number 1. The fifth album, Icaros, is released through Sakara and debuts at number 2. Across these records, the band builds a strong position in the Finnish metal scene.
