DeWolff

DeWolff are a Dutch rock band from Sittard-Geleen, in the south of the Netherlands. The group forms in 2007 and consists of brothers Pablo and Luka van de Poel with Robin Piso. Their music sits within psychedelic rock, with elements of alternative rock, blues rock, classic rock and hard rock.

Early releases and breakthrough

The band first releases a self-titled EP in 2008, which quickly brings them attention among rock listeners in the Netherlands. In December that year they play their first show at Paradiso in Amsterdam. Their debut album, Strange Fruits and Undiscovered Plants, follows in 2009 and leads to a successful tour of the Netherlands and Germany.

Festival appearances and live reputation

In 2010 DeWolff perform at Pinkpop in front of a crowd of 10,000. At that time the members are still teenagers. Their second album, Orchards/Lupine, is recorded in late 2010 and released in January 2011, reaching number 11 in the Dutch album chart. The tour for the album sells out completely. In August 2011 they appear at Sziget in Hungary before 15,000 people and at Lowlands in the Netherlands before 30,000.

A film crew follows the band from the release of the debut album to the Sziget performance, resulting in a documentary called DeWolff, which premieres at the Amsterdam International Documentary Festival in May 2012.

Later work

Their third studio album, DeWolff IV, is released in 2012 and includes both hard-rocking tracks and a twenty-minute rock opera. By then the group has built a strong live reputation, with performances in France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Russia and Australia.

For Grand Southern Electric, the band travels to Valdosta, Georgia in 2014 to record with producer Mark Neill, who has won a Grammy Award. The album reflects the band’s interest in Southern rock and soul as well as their own guitar-driven style.
