Devolution

Devolution is a UK dubstep and dance duo made up of Pete Devereux and Tom de Vos. The pair also describe their music as “Embrace the Bass”, and their work sits broadly within dubstep, with garage and dub influences.

Background

Pete Devereux previously forms one half of Artful Dodger, alongside Mark Hill, and his work there helps define UK garage as a mainstream genre. As part of Artful Dodger, he scores five Top 10 hits, including “Re-Rewind” and “Movin’ Too Fast”, wins an Ivor Novello award, and helps launch Craig David’s career. The duo sells more than 1.5 million singles and 500,000 copies of their debut album, It’s All About The Stragglers.

Tom de Vos is a Southampton-based producer who is one of the first artists signed to Steve Angello’s Size Records. He records an album with Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, before also working under the name The Dawn, which produces the downtempo track “Wonderful” for Onephatdeepa.

Style and activity

Devolution writes, produces and performs its own material. The project presents itself as a progression from Devereux’s earlier work in UK garage, while drawing on dubstep and related club styles.
