Dev/Null is the electronic music project of Boston-based producer Pete Cassin, who begins working on computer music tunes in 1998 and 1999 while also playing drums in various bands. His early influences include labels such as Ambush, Praxis, Sounds Never Seen and ACV, alongside extreme underground grindcore, death metal and crust.

Career

For the first three or four years, progress on the project moves slowly because of other commitments, including band activity and school. After moving back to Boston in 2002, he concentrates more fully on electronic music and begins issuing releases on a range of independent labels.

Releases and labels

Dev/Null releases split EPs on Sprengstoff Records in Germany and Omeko Records in Japan, a 12-inch EP on Violent Turd and Tigerbeat 6 in Australia and the US, and a full-length CD on Cock Rock Disco in the US and Germany. He also issues the net EP Necrobestial Sadobreaks on Cock Rock Disco in 2008, described as a set of metally tracks originally intended for vinyl.

Style and activity

The project is associated with breakbeat hardcore, breakcore, flashcore and jungle, and also appears under the tags breakcore, IDM, experimental, electronic and ravecore. Cassin slows down his releases as he tours and plays shows less frequently, but continues writing tracks and posting them online, mainly on SoundCloud. An additional 12-inch EP is scheduled for Dross:tik Records in Canada.
