Devil You Know

Devil You Know is a heavy metal band that forms around Howard Jones, Francesco Artusato and John Sankey. The group later takes the name Light the Torch.

Formation and members

The band begins in Los Angeles in late 2012, after Artusato and Sankey write more than a dozen songs before bringing in a singer. Jones, formerly of Killswitch Engage and Blood Has Been Shed, joins the project after hearing the material. The initial lineup consists of Jones on vocals, Artusato on guitar and Sankey on drums. Ryan Wombacher joins on bass and backing vocals in 2013. Roy Lev-Ari serves as guitarist from 2013 to 2015.

Background of the musicians

Jones earns two gold records and a Grammy nomination during his ten years with Killswitch Engage. Artusato is also known as a solo artist through The Francesco Artusato Project and as a guitarist for All Shall Perish. Sankey plays drums for the Australian band Devolved and also works with Fear Factory and Divine Heresy.

Recording and label

The band records its debut material in early 2013 with producer and former Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader. Nuclear Blast Entertainment signs the group, and Mader helps shape the band’s sound in the studio.

Releases

Devil You Know releases The Beauty of Destruction in 2014 and They Bleed Red in 2015.

Style

The group is associated with metalcore, groove metal, metal, hardcore and melodic metalcore. Its sound develops from the members’ extreme metal backgrounds into a heavier, more song-focused style.
