Deviant UK

Deviant UK is a UK electronic group centred on Jay Smith, who is credited as singer and songwriter. The project forms in January 2004 and works in electronic, futurepop and industrial music, with a sound that also draws on synthpop and dark electro.

Releases and songs

The group releases its debut album, Barbed Wire Star, in October 2006. The album includes the club tracks Raptured Saints and Access Denied!. A second album, Very Bad Things, is in production.

Style and performance

Deviant UK uses contemporary programming, synthesisers, industrial percussion loops and cold vocals. Smith’s songs focus on themes such as deviant sex, twisted romance and betrayal, and the project places importance on image and stage presentation. It is also known as a live act with a strong theatrical presence.

Collaborations and live activity

The group collaborates with Peter Spilles of Project Pitchfork and with Rotersand, with these collaborations reaching alternative charts across Europe. It performs at major scene festivals including Wave Gotik Treffen, Nocturnal Culture Night, Black Celebration, Whitby Goth Weekend and Infest. It also undertakes a four-week US tour in support of Project Pitchfork.
