Detta is an Indonesian music project led by Max Molodtsov, also known as Max Detta, Max Dettavich and Demon DeMax. It begins in March 2009 and is associated with a range of electronic and heavy styles, including industrial metal, death electro, experimental music, trance, hard trance and uplifting trance. The project is linked with Yeiskomp Records and is described as moving into trance-oriented material from July 2015, after earlier work that ranges from industrial metal to death electro.

Origins and formation

Max Molodtsov starts the project after accumulating material that does not fit his earlier death metal work. Before Detta, he plays guitar and works with different rhythm sections, and he also experiments with inexpensive synthesizers in search of other sounds. He develops the material privately for several years before making it public in March 2009. The project is presented as a solo undertaking by Max, although he receives support at different points from other musicians.

Early releases and live activity

In early March 2009, Max Molodtsov and supporters Sergey Lopukhov, credited as Bonif from Barbarity, and guitarist Yuri Mikhailov, also known as Bloods from Manticor and Unidentified Corpse, release the internet single “God’s Breath”. About six weeks later they record the EP Age of Angels, which includes that track. The project does not initially plan live performances and instead gauges reaction to the material.

Bonif leaves in June 2009 to focus on Barbarity. The debut show follows in July 2009 in Sharya, in the Kostroma region. A second promotional concert takes place in Kostroma in September 2009 alongside Otto Dix. In October 2009 the first DVD, 999, appears, and in December 2009 the full-length album Era is released.

2010 to 2012

In February 2010 the video shoot begins for “Cocaina”, which becomes a key single. The single “Cocaine is my Cocaine” follows in April 2010. From May to November 2010 the project tours in support of “Cocaina” and its video, playing in both small and larger cities. In October 2010 the song “Your Last Breath” is recorded and also used in live performances of older material from Era. In December 2010 the second DVD, And there will be DETTAISM, and the EP Last breath are released.

In March 2011 the third DVD, Live Show in Ivanovo 2011, is issued. The album COCAINA follows in May 2011 on CYANIDE Promotion. It gathers material from earlier releases, including “God’s Breath”, Age of Angels, Era, “Cocaine is my Cocaine”, Last breath, plus two new songs and one track recorded with the Belarusian project 13. Around this period, the project is described as an intense mix of unusual vocals, heavy guitar riffs and electronic samples. In 2012 the EP Ships appears as a metal release containing five songs drawn mostly from the established repertoire and issued online.

Later work

In July 2015 Max Molodtsov, then the sole musician in the project, releases XIII Apostol, an instrumental compilation of 18 tracks. Most of its material is written between 2009 and 2013, while “Air mix”, “Ocean” and “Tunnel” are new. The release is described as more dance-oriented than experimental or metal. A bonus track, “wnd 7”, is included with the Kostroma band Medicine Coma. Around the same time, a remix for the Austrian metal band KaaK appears as “Satan dreams”. In August 2015 VJ CNiclav produces a mix of “Ocean” and “Tunnel”, also issued as a trial-trip DJ set.

Max Molodtsov is also associated with several other projects. These include Barbarity, active from 2002 to 2010 and again from 2016, Derogatory, active from 2009, Nimaroniroma, active from 2016, Unnopticoom, UnidentifiedCorpse, ScalpingCrypt, Rigorism, Haagal and Apocalypsys. The project notes also refer to his work as an artist, musician, singer and philosopher, and mention his support for different projects and DJs across EDM and trance-related directions.
