Destructive Tendencies

Destructive Tendencies are a UK dance hardcore trio made up of Michael John Ormerod, Joey Riot and Daniel Peter Moore. Formed in 2010, they work across styles within hardcore, including gabber, uptempo, hardcore techno and electronic hardcore.

Early releases and first break

The group begins by issuing early material on their own label, Quarantined Recordings Black. This includes tracks such as “Make It Harder” and “La La La”, along with an early version of “Taken From Me”. That track brings their first wider attention when Kutski plays it on his BBC Radio 1 show.

European hardcore scene and record labels

After gaining support from DJs including Mad Dog, AniMe, Hellsystem, Dione and DJ Chrono, the group builds an overseas following. Their tracks appear on main stages at events such as Dominator, Decibel and Defqon 1, with Partyraiser among the artists playing their music. In November 2012 they send a preview of a new EP to Megarave Records, and the label signs it soon after. Their debut EP, This Is Your Moment, places tracks at numbers 1, 2 and 3 on the Hardtunes.com chart.

Remixes, radio and festival bookings

Destructive Tendencies enter a remix competition linked to the This Is Hardcore brand from Neophyte Records and Traxtorm Records, and win their category with a remix of DJ Mad Dog’s “Agony”. They also remix Rotterdam Terror Corps and Paul Elstak’s “Skull Dominion”, a track that receives support from Angerfist. Their growing profile leads to radio appearances with Kutski, including a guest mix and interview on BBC Radio 1.

Their live work expands across Europe, with bookings at events including Decibel Festival’s Hardcore stage in the Netherlands, Westfest in the UK, BKJN vs Partyraiser, Pussy Motherfuckers, Hardcore 4 Life in Rotterdam, Ibiza Goes Hard, Harmony of Hardcore, Intents Festival, Defqon 1, Kings Of Core, E-Mission, Kiddstock, Chronicle Open Air, The Qontinent and Dominator Indoor. They are also the first UK act to sign to the agency Most Wanted and later sign exclusively to Hardcore Blasters Records in Italy.

Later releases and collaborations

Their EP Fucking Up The Mainstream reaches the top two positions on Hardtunes.com, with the title track holding number one for 11 days. Another EP, Our Core, also reaches the Hardtunes.com top 10 and includes “I’ll Let You Have Your Day” and “Our Core”. In 2015 they close the main stage of Master of Hardcore with Partyraiser and perform their first collaboration track, “Sound Becomes One”.
