Deolinda

Deolinda is a Portuguese group from Lisbon that forms in 2006 and remains active. The group works within fado and draws on its traditional roots while building original songs from Portuguese traditional and popular music.

The four members are Ana Bacalhau on vocals, José Pedro Leitão on double bass, Pedro da Silva Martins on classical guitar, and Luís José Martins on classical guitar. Their backgrounds include classical music, jazz, and ethnic and traditional music, and the group develops its material through musical research and the crossing of different musical languages.

Their first album, Canção ao Lado, appears in 2008. The group’s writing centres on original compositions shaped by popular music traditions and by the sound world associated with fado.
