Delhi 2 Dublin
Delhi 2 Dublin is a Vancouver, Canada-based group that forms in 2006. The band plays bhangra and Celtic music, with a sound that begins as an electronic blend of bhangra rhythms and Celtic fiddle and expands into dub reggae, breaks and dance-oriented music.
Formation and core line-up
The group forms at Vancouver’s Celtic Fest in 2006. It is founded by Tarun Nayar, Sanjay Seran and Ravi Binning. Nayar plays tabla and electronics and is also associated with Beats Without Borders. Seran provides vocals and comes from the live bhangra act Signia. Binning plays dhol and dholak and is a professionally trained bhangra dancer and dhol player.
Live members and collaborators
Delhi 2 Dublin performs with a changing live line-up that includes violinist Kytami and sitar and guitar player Andrew Kim. Other live performers include Serena Eades on violin, James Hussain on guitar, and Jaron Freeman-Fox on violin and guitar. Andrew Kim is also listed as a former member and continues to appear at select shows.
Recording output and live reputation
The band releases its first full-length album within a year of forming and then keeps a regular schedule of albums and remix releases. Its discography includes Delhi 2 Dublin, Remixed, Planet Electric, Planet: Electrified, Delhi 2 Dubland, Turn Up The Stereo, Turn Up The Stereo: Remixed and Delhi 2 Dublin: LIVE. The live album is recorded at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on the band’s eighth anniversary.
