Default

Default is a Canadian hard rock and post-grunge band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The group forms in 1999 and remains active. Its line-up consists of Dallas Smith on vocals, Jeremy James Hora on guitar, Dave Benedict on bass and Danny Craig on drums. The band records for Corruption Music, Inc.

Career

Default is discovered early on by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, who helps the band by taking them on tour, co-writing songs and producing recordings. Over time, the group moves away from that influence. Default releases four albums: The Fallout, Elocation, One Thing Remains and Comes and Goes.

Singles and notable exposure

The debut album The Fallout generates the band’s best-known material, including “Wasting My Time” and “Deny”, both of which gain attention in the United States. “Deny” also appears in the 2003 edition of EA Sports’ NHL video game series. From Elocation, the single “(Taking My) Life Away” receives radio and television play in Canada, followed by “Throw It All Away” and “All She Wrote”.

On One Thing Remains, “Count On Me” becomes a Canadian radio hit before the album is released, and “The Memory Will Never Die” appears on WWE’s Wrestlemania. The fourth album, Comes and Goes, is delayed after problems with the band’s former label TVT, which goes bankrupt and is later sold to The Orchard. The album then appears through EMI Canada Records, with “All Over Me” as its first single.
