Deerhoof

Deerhoof is a US indie band from San Francisco, active since 1994. It begins as an improvisational bass and harmonica solo project by Rob Fisk, who later joins 7 Year Rabbit Cycle and Common Eider, King Eider. The group’s line-up includes founding drummer Greg Saunier, bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, and guitarists John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez; other members associated with the band include Kelly Goode and Chris Cohen.

Deerhoof first performs improvised noise punk, then gains wider recognition in the 2000s for self-produced recordings that combine noise, catchy pop melodies and an experimental approach. Its music is also associated with experimental rock, indie rock, lo-fi, neo-psychedelia, noise pop and noise rock. The band has released more than a dozen studio albums since 1997, including Mountain Moves. It is known for an energetic and unconventional style and becomes influential within indie music. Pitchfork describes it as “the best band in the world”, and The New York Times calls it “one of the most original rock bands to have come along in the last decade”.
