Deer Leader

Deer Leader is a group made up of Stuart McQuarrie, Ross Prentice and Robin Pringle, three multi-instrumentalists. The act works with introspective soundscapes that combine loud guitars, chopped-up beats, vocal samples and layers of reverb.

Early releases

Deer Leader begin as an instrumental outfit and later release a double A-side single, “Know Everything, Know Everyone/Last Acts of a Desperate Man”. The single draws attention from some US music blogs and receives favourable coverage in the local music press.

Debut album

The group spend several years reworking their sound with producer Andy Miller, who has worked with Mogwai, Arab Strap and Life Without Buildings. This leads to their debut album, We’ve Met Before Haven’t We?, which is completed in early 2019. The record moves away from the band’s purely instrumental roots and introduces songs that emphasise duality in both sound and lyrics, balancing dreamlike and darker qualities.
