Ded is an American nu metal and metalcore band from Arizona, based in Tempe and active since 2016. The group forms around vocalist Joe Cotela and draws on members from Greeley Estates and Man Made Machine.

Formation and background

Ded develops out of Arizona band The Cover Up. Cotela says that activity in The Cover Up reaches a standstill, and the group moves away after dissatisfaction with Epic Records’ handling of its album promotion. That split leads to Man Made Machine, and after Man Made Machine plays its final show, Cotela and percussionist Matthew Reinhard form Ded with guitarist David Ludlow and bassist Kyle Koelsch, both from Greeley Estates.

Line-up

The group includes Joe Cotela, Kyle Koelsch, David Ludlow and Matt Reinhard. David Ludlow later leaves and is replaced by Alex Adamcik.

Releases

Ded releases its debut track, “FMFY”, in December 2016 with production by John Feldmann. Its first radio single, “Anti-Everything”, follows and premieres on Sirius XM Octane. The song reaches No. 18 on the Mainstream Rock chart in May 2017.

The band’s debut studio album, Mis•an•thrope, is released in 2017 through Suretone Records. In 2020, the group issues the two-track EP Mannequin Eyes, featuring “A Mannequin Idol (Lullaby)” and “Eyes Sewn Shut”. Its second studio album, School of Thought, appears in 2021.

Style

Ded is identified with nu metal and metalcore, and is also associated with alternative metal and rapcore.
