December Streets

December Streets is a South African indie pop-rock band from Pretoria, active since 2009. The group forms in 2010 around Tristan Coetzee, who plays vocals and guitar, and Gideon Meyer, who plays bass and saxophone, joined by Nico van Loggerenberg on lead guitar, Corneil Clasen on drums and Waldo Boshoff on trumpet. Their line-up brings together rock, indie pop-rock, Afro-funk, reggae, ska and brass-led arrangements, with the band describing its sound through upbeat rhythms, layered guitars and prominent trumpet.

The group is known for songs such as “Fire through the Window” and “Who Needs Shoes”, which appear on an EP recorded at Anti-Motion studios. Both tracks reach number one on TuksFM’s Most Wanted and SA Top 10 charts. Another track, “My Name”, is playlisted on 5FM, reaches number one on its Rock Chart and peaks at 16 on the international charts.

December Streets continues to perform at shows and festivals across South Africa.
