Music and releases

The project releases music under the name debonair and is described as having a cinematic sound built from a transparent, balanced mix of acoustic and electronic elements. Its debut, the pollenflight e.p., appears as an independent release in 2001. A later release, somewhere, midair, is issued in Switzerland in 2006 through vacuum records and recrec.

The music on somewhere, midair includes 14 tracks that range from melancholy song-sketches to epic atmospheric instrumentals and pieces that experiment with motives, all linked by the project’s characteristic harmonies.

Approach and activity

DEBONAIR keeps creative control over its work and relies on a large network of musicians. It maintains a web presence used mainly as a download platform for free MP3s, alongside material including unreleased songs, live performances, remixes, and extracts from compositions for two short-documentary films made in 2005.

Reception

The project is described as having long been an insider’s tip among listeners interested in innovative music in Switzerland.
