Death on the Balcony
Death on the Balcony is a DJ and production duo based in Leeds. The pair, Mark Caramelli and Paul Hargreaves, both come from Blackpool and meet through a shared interest in house and techno. Their sound is shaped by influences from new wave, disco and 1980s club culture, and their sets move between deep melodic house and techno, groovy rolling techno and cosmic disco.
Career and activity
The duo starts in 2008 with radio support from Rob da Bank for an unreleased track called “Live Together”. They then receive further airplay on Galaxy FM and appear on Riley and Durrant’s Nu Breed with an interview and mix, as well as on the Latvian radio show Dancebox with Bodgan Taran.
They are regular guests at Wax On and play at Dirty Disco, Polaroid and Dirty Disco Tent at Gatecrasher Summer Soundsystem. Their appearances also take them overseas, including bookings for Danscotheek in Latvia and parties linked to Miniclublabel at Sonar, Barcelona and Ibiza, including events at the Zoo Project.
Style and collaborations
Their productions are described as a mix of groovy techno, disco and melodic house. Their work receives positive response from other DJs and producers, including Magda, Paul Woolford, Rob da Bank, Audiojack, Simon Baker, Darius Syrossian, Hernan Cattaneo and Ryan Elliott, among others.
