deary

deary is a London-based dream pop and shoegaze group formed in 2021. The group consists of Alice Geary, Rebecca Cockram and Ben Easton. Its sound sits within dream pop and shoegaze, with guitars, reverb, ethereal vocals and trip-hop-influenced beats.

Formation and name

The project begins during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ben Easton starts by making instrumental demos and looks for a vocal collaborator through social media. He connects with Dottie after a recommendation from a mutual friend. The name deary is chosen by Ben before he meets Dottie, as an affectionate and archaic term that he sees as an interesting contrast to the heavier instrumentation he is making.

Members and recording

Ben Easton is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. The group later includes drummer Harry Catchpole in the official lineup for the recording of its debut album.

Activity and releases

deary tours the UK and Europe and supports acts including Slowdive and Cranes before releasing its first album. Its debut album, Birding, is part of the group’s recorded output.
