Deadwood

Deadwood is a French group associated with dark ambient, noise, black metal, power electronics and post-black metal. The name is used by several different acts, including a noise duo from Austin, Texas, a noise and ambient solo project, an alternative rock band, a German atmospheric post-black metal band, and an early 1970s studio project.

Alternative rock line-up

One version of Deadwood forms in 2005 with Shahar on vocals and acoustic guitar, Hezi on bass, Tal on guitars and Alon on drums. The members have played together in other projects before, which helps them combine heavier riffs with quieter acoustic elements. In 2006 the band releases its first single, My Sleepy Town, and a demo version of Winter Again, which reaches the playlist of Cambridge University Radio in the UK. In winter 2007 the band records the EP Penny For Your Thoughts, which helps it reach a wider audience and play more live shows. Later, Elad Levin joins on guitar, adding to the band’s studio sound on stage.

Atmospheric post-black metal project

Another Deadwood is an atmospheric post-black metal band from Germany. It releases a demo in 2008 and the full-length Picturing a Sense of Loss in 2014.

Noise and ambient release project

A separate Deadwood project begins in 2003 under the name Deadwood Murder, created by Daniel Jansson as a solo noise and ambient project. After a demo is sent to several labels and receives a strong response, the project releases three full-length albums on Cold Spring Records: 8 19, Ramblack and Sheolic.

Earlier studio project

Another act called Deadwood appears as a studio project with three singles on Decca in the early 1970s. It is led by Tom Hayes, Steve Wadey and Michelle Grainger, who also write songs for Los Bravos, including Black is Black.
