Dead Silence

Dead Silence is a punk group from Boulder, Colorado, active since 1984. The band is described as an anarchist peacepunk act from the Boulder scene, and its line-up changes repeatedly over the years.

History and line-up

The band has several key members across its run. Ted Silence stays on drums for most of the group’s existence. Steve R. plays guitar for many years and is associated with the band’s earlier, feedback-heavy sound. Joel S. later brings a cleaner and more consistent guitar style. Toward the end of the band’s life, Marshall L. of Eco Guerrillas also plays and records with the group. Other members include Loren, Adam, Steve Bear, Jay K., Dennis M. of Expatriate, Jodi S., and a few others.

Dead Silence’s releases include Stress (1985) on Unclean, Beginning of the End (1986) on Timekiller, For Your Ego’s Sake (1988) on Hippycore, Hope (1989) on Timekiller, Freedom on Vinyl Communications, the Dead Silence/Tit Wrench split 7-inch on Vinyl Communications in 1994, A Benefit 7-inch on Spiral in 1994, and Hell, How Could We Make Any More Money Than This? 7-inch on Profane Existence in 1995.

Style and themes

The group is rooted in punk and anarchist peacepunk. The emphasis is not only on the music but also on message and the people the band meets while touring and playing live.

Other uses of the name

There are also other groups called Dead Silence, including a Russian black metal project formed in 2003 and a Philadelphia band formed in 2002.
