Dead Boy Robotics

Dead Boy Robotics are a three-piece group from Edinburgh, Scotland. The line-up comprises Gregor McMillan, Mike Bryant and Paul Bannon. Their music combines laptop, synths, guitars, tribal drumming, vocal harmonies, yelps and screams, and is described as atmospheric new wave with an epic and intense feel.

Style and influences

The group draws on a range of influences, including Animal Collective, Subtle, Liars and HEALTH. Their approach is associated with avant-garde electronic music and with elements that sit between synth-led electronics, punk energy and new wave.

Activity and releases

Dead Boy Robotics gain attention after being selected as one of 16 acts from more than 1,400 entries to appear on the unsigned band stage at Scotland’s T in the Park festival in July 2009. They receive radio play from Vic Galloway, Jim Gellatly and Tom Robinson, and record a live session for Ally McCrae’s BBC Introducing show in May 2011.

Their debut EP, Tale of the Winter Kids, is self-released in May 2010. In May 2011 they release Ever, a split 7-inch vinyl with Edinburgh band The Machine Room through Tape Singles Club. Their self-titled debut album is recorded and mixed at Tape in Edinburgh by Stephen Watkins during autumn and winter 2010.
