De Profundis
De Profundis is a British metal band from London, formed in 2005 and active since then. The group plays death metal, death-doom metal and progressive metal, and its music also draws on black metal, doom metal, progressive rock and jazz. The band is often described as difficult to place within a single extreme metal category because of that mix of styles.
Style and line-up
The band uses a progressive approach to extreme metal. Craig Land handles vocals and uses both clean singing and deep death growls, sometimes within the same track. Arran McSporran plays fretless bass, Nick Tingle plays drums with a jazz fusion influence, and guitarists Shoi Sen and Roman Subbotin write separate guitar parts rather than doubling one another. Their guitar work combines fast soloing with blues-influenced melodic leads.
Releases
De Profundis releases its early albums as Beyond Redemption and A Bleak Reflection, issued in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Its third album, The Emptiness Within, arrives after being recorded in December 2011, and it continues the band’s progressive direction while streamlining the songwriting. The album is produced by De Profundis and Fernando Pereira, recorded in the UK and mixed at Studios Davout in Paris.
Live activity
The band performs in a range of countries and takes part in international touring and major metal festivals. Its live history includes support for Iron Maiden in India, touring with Rotting Christ and appearing at Bloodstock Open Air.
