Dc3

Dc3 is an American rock band formed in 1983 by singer, songwriter and guitarist Dez Cadena and active until 1987. Cadena previously plays in the California punk band Black Flag from around 1980 to 1983, first as singer and then as rhythm guitarist. The band forms during a period when a record distribution problem severely curtails Black Flag’s activity.

Line-up

Dc3 is formed by Dez Cadena with keyboardist Paul Roessler, who previously plays with the Los Angeles band the Screamers, and drummer Jeff Dahl.

Style and recordings

The band’s debut album, This Is the Dream, appears in 1985 on SST Records. It has a strong Black Sabbath influence and little of the hardcore or punk sound associated with Black Flag. It is especially noted for the songs “I Believe It” and “Ain’t No Time Here Now”, both of which Cadena originally writes and performs live with Black Flag. These songs also appear on Black Flag’s The Complete 1982 Demos Plus More as “Yes I Know” and “What Can You Believe”.

Later recordings move away from the Black Sabbath influence, but the band still keeps a pronounced 1970s hard rock sound. Dc3 also records a cover of Mountain’s “Theme From An Imaginary Western” for an SST compilation.

Final release

Vida, a 1989 collection of live recordings, is Dc3’s last album.
